God: One week out from our national election, emotions are running high and hot with no end in sight.
Some are rejoicing, relieved, and hopeful. Others are reeling, outraged, and anxious.
Some are boasting and plotting revenge. Others are raging and can’t wait to avenge.
Some are convinced justice has prevailed. Others are convinced justice has failed.
All are fueled by dual certainties of the right stand and focusing on mere man as the remedy or wrecking ball for the issues at hand.
God, may we all redirect our gaze to Your higher authority, omniscience, and omnipotence and be humbled by Your equalizing gaze.
May every finger pointed redirect us to ourselves so we can honestly assess our hubris, hypocrisy, and need for mercy.
May our instructive human history re/turn us to You so we can compromise, unify, and align with Your will for our common good.
May we all recall our shared DNA and be informed by the primacy of love that is neither indulgent nor easy, but is sacrificial and calls us to believe the best and let go of the rest.
May we rely on Your perfect judgment to expose and eradicate evil, including in our hearts, grateful that nobody is beyond redemption, which is Good News for everyone.
This is all best done on our knees, punctuated by please and thank you for the luxury of Christ, who loves us and came not to condemn but to rescue us from ourselves.
