Doesn't reading this verse give you a blissful rush of peace? A sense of calm restfulness? Sit with it for a little while, hearing Jesus speak softly to your weariness.
Why is it so hard for some of us (me) to do this? As a person full of faith, I often act as if everything depends on me alone: my hard work, my performance, my exhausting self-effort, my wits...and my agenda (Ruh-Roh). That may be one issue.
Jesus doesn't say that. He draws us to take His easy, light yoke. I sometimes only respond to this comforting call when I've driven myself to burdensome weariness. Less now, but still.
Speaking of which, stillness is the key. Come to His loving presence early and often till you're at peace, a supernatural state that can transcend our external reality.
Full disclosure: Yokes don’t look comfy and soft, but God assures us His is the easier, softer way.
