Fact-Check

Writer's picture: Isabella CampolattaroIsabella Campolattaro

Truth matters more than ever. Our lives depend on it. Please fact-check your church. The Bible says it way better than I can:

"But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction." 2 Peter 2:1 (NKJV)

"And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. Matthew 24:10 (ESV)

Lies my itchy ears like to hear (and a tiny bit of contradicting Truth):

• Jesus’ finished work covers all my sin. (1 John 3:7-10, Hebrews 10:26)

• Their sin is worse than mine. (Romans 3:23, 6:23)

• I am saved by grace alone. (Philippians 2:12, James 2:14)

• Sin doesn’t matter. (Matthew 19:17)

• I’m a “good Christian.” (Mark 10:18)

• As long as I’m loving, anything goes. (John 14:15)

• Being Christian doesn’t involve suffering. (Matthew 16:24-26)

• I’m better than them. (Galatians 3:28)

• I act right, and that’s all that matters. (Matthew 5:8)

• I’m blessed and highly favored. (Matthew 5:3-10)

• Jesus wants me to be happy, comfy, and rich. (Mark 10:17-27)

• If I believe harder, I’ll get what I want.(1 John 5:14)

• If I’m good enough, I’m good with God. (John 3:36)

• I’m good. They’re bad. (Romans 3:10)

• Mine, mine, all mine! (Acts 2:44-47)

• I am a god. (Romans 8:17)

• The Bible is outdated. (Matthew 24:35)

• There are many paths to God. (Acts 4:12)

• New prophets reveal NEW truth. (Revelation 22:18-19, 2 Peter 2:1)

• I can make a whole theology from a few of my favorite verses (Proverbs 30:5-6)

• Everyone gets into heaven. (Matthew 7:13-14)

…And the list goes on.

Maybe you’ve noticed that God is exposing lies and evil and revealing truth and good…in our hearts, churches, and the world at large. He is separating the wheat and the chaff, which Jesus says He’ll burn with fire (Matthew 3:12). Wow.

The very GOOD NEWS is God's motive is love. that He so loves us that “He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent" (2 Peter 3:9, Acts 17:30-31) and be forgiven (1 John 1:9).

Pray for your pastors and churches, who are subject to all the same forces that can derail you and me. If you sense your church shifting to re/align with Truth, rejoice. If not, ask God to show you what to do.

PRAYER:

Father, forgive us all the compromises we’ve made, allowed, and tolerated, sometimes knowingly and willingly. Please reveal what’s good and faithful and help us humbly re/turn to You in Christ’s name. Amen. Thank You. I love You.💖
